Hello...
Horse girls' feeding advice - how it came about
Hello, my name is Stefanie Ulrich.
I have lived on Mallorca with my husband for almost 20 years – and here I have found my very own way into horse feeding.
When we bought our first horse on the island, I experienced my first culture shock: The stables didn't serve hay – only straw mixed with oats and barley. For me, influenced by the way the horses were fed in Germany, this was initially unimaginable. But it quickly became clear: hay as I knew it isn't readily available here. Instead, on Mallorca, they feed garba (unthreshed straw), hierbas (what grows in the fields when not sown), margall (a type of ryegrass) – or import expensive hay from the mainland or abroad.
These special conditions forced me to think anew – and to look closely.
Because whether in Mallorca or in Germany:
If the horse seems lethargic, is gaining weight poorly, or has skin or digestive problems, you start experimenting. A new mineral feed, more protein, less sugar, some kind of powder for metabolism...
I know from my own experience how quickly you can spend a lot of money – and often without any real effect.
Well, that's exactly how my journey began. I simply wanted to know more, more and more.
So I tried countless insider tips, herbs, powders, and additives...documented their effects, and observed horses – first my own, then those of others. What started as a practical interest became a passion – and ultimately a profession: I completed extensive training as a feed consultant and specialized in horses with special needs.
I would be happy to help you improve your horse’s feeding –
individual, honest and practical.
Whether it's a simple ration check or detailed advice, I'll show you what your horse really needs – and what you can save on. This means less guesswork, fewer expensive mistakes – and more clarity, more effectiveness, and more health.
I particularly enjoy supporting horses with:
- Metabolic problems (EMS, IR, Cushing)
- Skin or digestive problems
- Allergies and respiratory diseases
- sensitive reactions to feed or additives
I am also happy to work with your veterinarian or animal health practitioner – because real change often comes from a team.
Kind regards, Steffi
Why feed advice?
Because horse feeding is more complex today than ever before. What's good for one horse can cause problems for the next. A well-thought-out ration plan not only saves feed costs but can also have a significant impact on health – without endless trial and error.
Because many problems appear gradually – too little protein, a mineral imbalance, or an imbalanced calcium:phosphorus ratio. The consequences range from decreased performance to serious illnesses. Taking early action often saves not only money but also worry.
Horsegirls’ feeding advice – for all those who don’t just want to feed “anything,” but rather what their horse really needs.
100% accurate? No, but it doesn't have to be
Of course, every feeding consultation is based on estimates: weight, feed conversion, nutrient requirements, hay quality – all of this is individual. I work with a large, professional feed database and can also realistically classify your roughage – or recommend an analysis if you want to know the exact details. But even a hay analysis has its limitations: The values can fluctuate even within a single batch. Nevertheless, it's worth knowing your horse's needs as precisely as possible – in order to feed more specifically, efficiently, and needs-based.
